Irene C. Papanestor Art Advisory LLC provides expertise and personalized counsel to collectors of modern and contemporary art in all media including photography, works on paper, painting, sculpture, video, and installations. Irene advises and acts on behalf of both experienced collectors as well as those who may be making their first acquisition. Her flexible, transparent, and passionate approach enables clients to develop and deepen their own focus and identity as collectors and is predicated upon the belief that collecting art should be an accessible and rewarding pursuit.
Irene holds both undergraduate and graduate degrees in Art History (BA, Wellesley College; MA, Columbia University), has completed coursework in New York University’s Appraisal Studies Program, and brings more than 20 years of gallery, museum, and research experience to her advisory. Most recently, Irene was an Associate Director at Pace/MacGill, a gallery specializing in modern and contemporary photography. As a dealer there for more than six years, she cultivated close relationships within an international network of artists, collectors, critics, and curators and placed work with museums, private and corporate collections in the U.S. and abroad, as well as curated exhibitions. Irene began her career at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and subsequently pursued historic preservation and archaeological fieldwork in Nicaragua, Maine, and Greece. She also worked at a boutique public relations firm in New York City specializing in the contemporary art world before becoming PaceWildenstein’s Public Relations Manager. On behalf of the Peggy Guggenheim Collection, she acted as the U.S. Pavilion Representative to the 48th International Venice Biennale and returned to Italy four years later as the U.S. Pavilion’s VIP Relations Liaison to the 50th International Venice Biennale.
